A Low Carb beer that just isn't about being low carb, it is about the flavour. It is a Low Carb Pale Ale that has the incredible hop aroma and hop flavour you expect from a typical Epic beer. On hearing this I could feel the pain of a great number of drinkers who were drinking low carb, but at the cost of a really delicious beer. It was time to help them out, as we did back in 2005 when we helped the whole of the New Zealand beer market with the wonderfully dry hopped Epic Pale Ale'.

After the massive success of Blue Low Carb Pale Ale Epic now have a Hazy joining their low carb family. Crush is a fresh and fruity hazy pale ale with full flavour and 75% less carbs than their Joose Party Hazy Pale Ale.

High Voltage is a hazy IPA that's all about harnessing the energy of two powerhouse hops: Citra and Mosaic. Hop Dragon - after the success of Epic's fresh hop beer Hop Gator last year they thought "how do we make this bigger and better". What is a flying Gator they thought, because they fly the hops from the hop farm on the same morning as they are harvested and have them in the beer just after lunch so they are as fresh as we can possibly get them? A Dragon, and coincidentally it is the year of the Dragon. Hop Dragon is packful of freshly harvested green, fresh Riwaka hops from Eggers Hop Farm in Upper Moutere. Hop farmer Kem gets up super early and heads out in the dark to find the freshest, ripest Riwaka hops he can find, Once again he has made us all proud. Hop Dragon is a perfect balance of the fresh green hop character and a deliciously drinkable Hazy Fresh Hop IPA.

Epic Beer - Kong - 8% Strong Ale.

Lupulingus, The name? Oh, it's brilliant! It's a fusion of "Lupulin" (that glorious resinous compound extracted straight from hops) and "Lingus" (yes, that's a cheeky nod to ones taste buds). With a 9% ABV, this Imperial IPA packs 40% more hops than its notorious sibling, Hop Zombie, and blasts ones senses with a jaw-dropping 101 IBUs. Yeah, that's right-101. We're talking hop intensity on a scale that'll make lesser IPAs weep.

On the palate, Magical Unicorn offers an intricate tapestry of flavours. Tropical fruits dominate, with mango and melon taking centre stage, complemented by hints of peach and blueberry. The malt backbone provides just enough sweetness to support the fruitiness, while the bitterness is clean and crisp, coming through with an assertive citrus and pine note that adds depth and balance. The finish is dry and remarkably clean, with a lingering bitterness that beckons the next sip.

A classic label indicates this classic expression of this version of an IPA. It's been a long time since Epic made an IPA using the classic C hops of Chinook, Cascade and Centennial, balanced with a touch of sweet crystal malt, that delivers a slightly richer colour, and a more obvious sweeter, malty note which marries perfectly with the grapefruit and piney notes from the hops. Its like stepping back in time with the way the original IPA's use to be.

Epic's third collaboration with AJ Hackett for the NZIPA Challenge held at Smiths Craft Beer House in Queenstown. The rules for this challenge are to be a new beer using only New Zealand ingredients. Even though they haven't put it on the label Epic have used 100% organic NZ grown barley and organic NZ grown Nelson Sauvin hops. They wanted to make a tasty and delicious, yet highly drinkable beer which celebrates the best NZ organic ingredients they could get hold of. Even though it is hoppy, it isn't crazy hoppy like some of Epic's other beers. It is 7.2% and it still has a fair amount of hops in the aroma and flavour.

Stay Frosty - Cold IPA is a chill brew. One where you can just relax and enjoy life. A carefully contemplated sip will take you on a wonderful journey of flavours that will satisfy any IPA drinker. Warm fermented with a lager yeast, and dry hopped early in fermentation helps deliver the unique yet highly satisfying flavours from the Mosaic, Simcoe and Citra hops.
