Church Road Grand Reserve Syrah has a core of dark plum and berry fruit is overlaid with classic Hawkes Bay Syrah perfume of violets, exotic warm spice and cracked black pepper, supported by subtle oak toast. On the palate the wine is full bodied but fine textured with a gentle tannin structure. The McDonald Series wines are an expression of both their fruit and the vision of their namesake winemaker. Made from a single small area of Syrah, off our Redstone vineyard in the Bridge Pa Triangle, this block was intensively managed by hand to ensure very low crop levels and well exposed fruit, delivering ripe, intensely flavoured grapes. Along with a gentle, traditional winemaking approach, this has produced a wine of concentration and richness with an elegant, velvety tannin structure whilst still retaining the fresh, lifted aromatics Hawke's Bay Syrah is so well known for.
