A refined Hawke's Bay red crafted from premium vineyards in the Gimblett Gravels and Bridge Pa Triangle. The free-draining alluvial soils of Gimblett Gravels yield intensely concentrated fruit with firm tannin structure, while the iron-rich red metals of Redstone Vineyard contribute supple texture and aromatic lift. The result is a balanced, complex wine led by dark berry and plum flavours, layered with notes of lavender, rosewood, cedar, and hints of cacao and vanilla. A savoury, earthy depth adds intrigue, while the medium-full palate offers generous mid-palate flesh and a long, finely structured finish, promising excellent cellaring potential.

Church Road Grand Reserve wines are produced only in exceptional vintages. The very best low-cropping vineyard blocks are targeted for selective hand-harvesting to yield wines with the greatest possible flavour, depth and concentration. The Grand Reserve Pinot Noir is wild fermented with a proportion of whole bunches. Dark cherry and sweet berry fruit is lifted by alluring floral and spice notes, complimented by underlying earthy complexity and subtle French oak. On the palate the wine is fine and supple with excellent textural length.

Church Road Grand Reserve Syrah has a core of dark plum and berry fruit is overlaid with classic Hawkes Bay Syrah perfume of violets, exotic warm spice and cracked black pepper, supported by subtle oak toast. On the palate the wine is full bodied but fine textured with a gentle tannin structure. This iconic, full-bodied red wine is only produced in exceptional vintages and represents the best that the region produces. Crafted from grapes that are hand-harvested from low yielding vineyards from the Gimblett Gravels winegrowing district, this wine was made using traditional winemaking techniques to emphasise complexity of flavour, aroma, power and elegance on the palate with a structure that provides great ageing potential.

2020 was a stunning season, warm & dry with just the right amount of heat when needed in the middle of flowering mid-December, giving the views energy to set small, intensely flavoured berries. The colour is a satisfyingly deep ruby/magenta with garnet hues, ideal for a fine young Pinot. The aromas are distinctly ripe and obviously Clos Ostler - red & dark currants, raspberries, cherries and a touch of damson plum. The spice from the ripe seeds is intoxicating giving a delicious brown baking spice aroma of clove, nutmeg & anise. All this is accented by the most delicate yet intense dark liquorice French oak. The palate is immensely satisfying with a delicious sweet ripe fruit entry that builds in intensity as it is warmed in the mouth. Layers of fruit sit beautifully poised with more of those red & dark fruits sitting in the mid-palate without being heavy or clunky. Powdery & silky tannins provide the perfect foil for richness of the fruit & gentle acidity holds the wine together. It is a classic Caroline's in a similar mold to the 2010 & 2016.
