The Akarua vineyard is a unique site, measuring 52 hectares, 34.5 of which planted with vines. The estate is tucked into the foothills of the mountains rising above Kawarua River upstream of Lack Dunstan, in the midst of a breathtaking landscape. Located in Bannockburn in the Central Otago region, the vineyard occupies three west-facing terraces and enjoys intense sun all year round. This outstanding terroir lends remarkable character to the Pinot Noir in a reflection of the spectacular mountains surrounding the estate. Floral and spicy, it has a nose of raspberries and blackcurrant, while the pallet derives of black cherry.

Akarua's second release of Pinot Rouge, an early bottling in a traditional 'nouveau' style. It is terrific to see so clearly, the flavours of two of their oldest and most favourite vineyards without the overlay of extended oak ageing and complex winemaking. They like to enjoy it at cellar temp - about 12C shows off the juiciness of this wine perfectly. Perfect as a slightly chilled summer red.

Flattering on the nose with an appealing palette of fruity aromas-blackcurrant, redcurrant, plum. Fleshy and balance on the palate with oaked notes and a pleasing finish.

Bright, aromatic with vibrant floral aromas of violet, cherries and spice. The fresh palate of ripe red berries coupled with black cherry and olive, soft tannins that have a seam of toasted spice make this a moreish wine.

Softly concentrated with deep and dense aromas of plush red plum, berry fruits, hints of blackcurrant, cocoa, spice and cedar. The palate is medium-full bodied, rich with layers of succulent fruit and chary oak flavours.

A truly exceptional single block wine, cropped at low levels and grown on a 2Ha block called Rocky Knoll. Complex and concentrated with notes of dense dark fruits, a distinct savouriness with hints of umami/soy character and a charry spicy oak lift. A generous palate offers richness up front that is focussed and pulled into line by the lovely powdery tannins. A wine of exceptional concentration, drive and length.

Intensely aromatic with ripe passionfruit and more subtle delicate flavours of lemongrass, fennel and elderflower. The wine shows great concentration and drive, with a textural mid palate framed by succulent juicy bright acidity. The majority of fruit was cool fermented in stainless steel, with a small component of barrel fermented wine blended in for texture.
